Exciting News: The Sullivan County Public Library is Expanding!

We are officially in the preliminary planning stages for a major renovation and expansion project at our main branch, scheduled to begin in Spring 2027.

As our community grows, so does our need for modern spaces. This project will give our beloved historic Carnegie building some well-deserved TLC while adding a brand-new two-story wing to better serve our patrons.

Here is a quick look at what is ahead:

  • Preserving Our History: Our classic limestone exterior, historic entrance, and iconic rotunda dome are all staying. We are simply refreshing the space to protect its historical integrity.

  • More Room for Everyone: The new addition will feature dedicated spaces for youth and families, along with versatile meeting room options and expanded workspaces.

  • Completely Debt-Free: This entire project is fully funded by the library’s saved funds in addition to potential grant funding, meaning there will be zero property tax increases.

What happens next? While the main building will close during construction, library services will continue. We will open a temporary storefront library right in town, and our other four county branches and history museum will remain fully operational.

We will offer opportunities in the coming months so you can view early design concepts and architectural drawings. Stay tuned to our website (https://www.sullivan.lib.in.us/) for updates as we prepare for this exciting new chapter!
