Access SCPL Audiobooks

The Sullivan County Public Library now offers a continually growing collection of complete and unabridged adult eAudiobooks from Netlibrary/Recorded Books.  The NetLibrary/Recorded Books website provides access to the eContent collection our library has purchased and made available for our library patrons to use.

Once you have signed up for your personal account you will be able to read, browse, search and borrow these books from any SCPL computer, as well as from your home, work, school computer or Branch library through an internet connection. 

 

What are the requirements to use eAudiobooks from Recorded Books? You must have:
  • A free account with Netlibrary obtained through the Sullivan County Public Library.
  • A PC computer that runs Windows 2000 or XP for downloading, and which has Windows Media Player 9 or higher.
What is the criterion for Players? Your portable device must support playback of:
  • Secure or protected wma files
  • 32kbp files

     For an optimal listening experience, the portable device should:

  • Have a storage capacity  of at least 512 MB

Support features--such as fulltime stamping and bookmarking--for playing long files and returning to a designated place in a file

NOTE:  You cannot listen to an eAudiobooks on an iPod or other portable device that does not support playback of secure or protected wma files.

Can I listen to my MP3 player through my car stereo? You will need an FM transmitter to listen to your MP3 player through your car stereo.  The cost is approximately $20-$30.
How do I create an account? You will need to go to the library homepage, www.sullivan.lib.in.us,  and click on Access SCPL Audiobooks link or use the link above.  This will take you to the homepage for NetLibrary/Recorded Books where you will be guided through the registration process. 
How do I download an Audiobook? Once registered:
  • Go to the homepage for NetLibrary/Recorded Books.
  • Enter your name and password
  • Click the log in button.

Choose an Audiobook:

  • Browse by means of the search function:  Keyword/Title/Author/?Narrator.

Download and Audiobook:

  • Click on Download this Audiobook.
  • Select a download option:  CD or Radio Quality.  NOTE:  You must choose CD quality for transfer to a portable player.
  • A Download window will pop up asking what you want to do with the file.  Choose Save and save it to My Documents, My Music, etc.

 

How do I transfer my audiobook to a portable device? Windows Media Player--Version 10 or higher
  • Connect your portable device to your computer.\
  • Open Windows Media Player
  • In the File menu, open the downloaded file.  This activates the license and begins to play the eAudiobook.
  • Click the Library tab
  • Find your eAudiobook title in the Playlist
  • Select Sync List in the drop-down menu above the right pane
  • Drag the eAudiobook title in the right pane.
  • Click the Start Sync Button located below the right pane
  • When synchronizing is 100% complete, disconnect your device.
