FARMERSBURG PUBLIC LIBRARY
OPEN   THE FARMERSBURG LIBRARY  OPENED JUNE 1, 2009 AT 307 W. HOPEWELL IN FARMERSBURG
 Librarian:  Rose Ann Gaskins       fpl47850@verizon.net
The library has been closed due to the old building developing mold and structural problems.  The Farmersburg Town Council has made space available at the Town Hall building until the permanent building is readied.    The space is small so the books will be more limited.  We will have plenty of children's books available, a good supply of new and popular adult books, as well as DVDs and videos.  There will be access to computers.

Library History

Farmersburg Library has been in different locations along Main Street.  It was over Hammond's Garage, which meant climbing tall stairs to get a book.  It was over Gray's Drugstore which meant more stairs.  It was in William (Shorty) Johnson's egg business which was torn down when Jewett Printing expanded.  June 26, 1972  it was moved to its Main Street location which previously housed Paul Gregg's Dry Cleaners.  In 2009 this old building developed mold and structural problems.  The library is soon to be opened in a new temporary location at the Town Hall until a more permanent location can be found.

There have been many librarians, but everyone of a "certain" age remembers Hazel Bennett having been with the library at each location.  Other librarians include Lucille King, Melba Scott, Ruth Lane, Linda Drake, Loena Gaskins, Carolyn Caton.

The library building on Main Street was vacated in 2009 due to age and a mold problem.  A new building next to Heady Heating was purchased and is now being readied for the new library.
